Bespoke Kitchen Design for Berkhamsted Homes

Tamaru Kitchens & Interiors designs and supplies bespoke kitchens for homes in Berkhamsted and across Hertfordshire from our studio in Hockliffe, Leighton Buzzard. Our collection includes Häcker German kitchens and Handmade English cabinetry, with design, specification, supply and installation all available through our team.

A new kitchen in Berkhamsted often forms part of a much bigger decision about how the home should work.

It may be a period property where the architecture needs to be respected, a family home being extended, or an existing layout that simply no longer suits the way you live.

We approach each project individually, looking at the room, the property and the practical details before deciding which kitchen style or cabinetry system makes the most sense.

Kitchen Design for Berkhamsted Properties

Good kitchen design starts with the room itself.

We look at how the space is used day to day, where storage is needed, how appliances should be positioned, whether an island genuinely improves the layout and how the kitchen relates to adjoining dining or living areas.

In larger family homes, this may mean balancing a generous island with comfortable circulation. In older properties, it can mean working around original walls, chimney breasts or proportions that don't suit a standard layout.

The aim is to create a kitchen that feels right for the property as well as being practical to use.

German and Handmade Kitchens for Berkhamsted

Tamaru offers both German kitchens and Handmade English kitchens, giving us the flexibility to explore different approaches rather than working from one manufacturer's range.

Häcker German Kitchens

Our Häcker kitchens are designed by our team and manufactured in Germany.

We offer Concept130 and Systemat, with options across contemporary, handled and handleless designs, along with a broad choice of finishes, cabinet configurations and internal storage.

Concept130 offers excellent flexibility across a wide range of styles, while Systemat provides further specification and design possibilities for more individually detailed kitchens.

Handmade English Kitchens

Our Handmade English cabinetry is available in LayOn and InFrame styles and can be made to measure.

This can be particularly useful in character properties or schemes where individual proportions, detailing or a painted shaker finish are important.

A wide choice of colours and finishes also makes it easier to coordinate the kitchen with the rest of the interior.

Designing for Berkhamsted's Character Homes

Berkhamsted has a strong architectural identity, with a historic town centre, listed buildings and a broad mix of older and more contemporary homes.

That can create interesting design challenges.

Older properties may have irregular walls, original architectural details or room proportions that require a more tailored layout. Larger detached homes and extended properties often need a different approach, where the challenge is not fitting enough cabinetry in, but making sure the room still feels balanced and easy to use.

Parts of Berkhamsted fall within a designated conservation area. If you're planning structural or external changes to a historic property as part of a wider renovation, it may be worth reviewing the relevant Dacorum Borough Council conservation guidance early in the project.

The kitchen itself should still feel natural within the house rather than overly formal or disconnected from the rest of the property.

Renovations and Extensions in Berkhamsted

A kitchen project often starts because the wider layout of the home is changing.

You may be extending into the garden, opening two rooms into one, moving the kitchen to a different part of the house or creating a more open-plan ground floor.

Tamaru is part of the DreamBuild Group, which means wider structural and building work can also be considered where required.

Involving the kitchen designer early can be particularly useful in this type of project. Cabinetry, appliances, plumbing, electrics and lighting can then be planned alongside the new room layout rather than fitted around decisions that have already been made.

More Than a Kitchen

For many of our clients, the kitchen is only one part of the wider interior.

Alongside kitchens, Tamaru designs and supplies:

  • Utility and boot rooms
  • Bedrooms and fitted wardrobes
  • Home offices
  • TV and media furniture
  • Bathrooms
  • Amtico flooring and more

We can also help specify worktops, sinks, taps and appliances.

Our appliance offering includes brands such as Sub-Zero & Wolf, Miele, Siemens, Liebherr, Bora and Lacanche, alongside Blanco, Quooker, Perrin & Rowe and more for sinks, taps and finishing details.

This can be particularly useful when several spaces need to work together visually, rather than being designed as separate rooms.

Our Kitchen Design Process

Every project begins with a conversation about your home, your ideas and what you would like to change.

We can start over the phone or in our Hockliffe studio, including an early discussion around budget so we can explore the options that make sense for your project.

Developing the design

We build the layout around the room and how you use it, considering storage, appliances, seating, worktop space and circulation.

Plans and visuals are then presented in our studio, where we can review the design together and explore materials, finishes and specification in person.

Quotation, manufacture and installation

Once the design and specification have been developed, we prepare a detailed quotation for the project.

Manufacturing is typically around four to eight weeks, depending on the cabinetry selected. Tamaru can also provide installation, which usually takes around two to three weeks for a typical kitchen. Larger renovation projects may require a longer programme.

How Much Does a Bespoke Kitchen in Berkhamsted Cost?

Every Tamaru kitchen is priced around the room and specification, so there is no single fixed cost.

As a broad guide, fully fitted kitchens can start from around £15,000 for a smaller scheme, with medium-sized kitchens and island layouts often moving into the £20,000–£25,000+ range. Larger kitchens and higher specifications will naturally increase the overall project value.

Discussing budget early helps us understand where you would most like to prioritise your investment and which cabinetry, appliances and finishes are likely to work best.

Interest-free finance and Buy Now, Pay Later options may also be available depending on the project value and products selected.

Why Choose Tamaru for Your Berkhamsted Kitchen?

Tamaru brings together kitchen design, cabinetry, appliances and wider interiors within one design-led approach.

You can choose between German and Handmade English kitchens, work directly with our design team and, where needed, bring wider renovation expertise into the project through DreamBuild.

That flexibility is particularly useful for homes where the kitchen is not an isolated room, but part of a larger renovation or change to the way the house is used.

What Our Clients Say

“The finish is exceptional and the service, support and patience shown by Neil from start to finish has been very much appreciated... the care that Tamaru took with our property from protecting door frames and doors to cleaning up at the end of every day was very much appreciated too.”
